As part of our commitment to enhancing the skills, knowledge, and competencies of the staff, we recently engaged in a full day of Professional Development with an early childhood trainer/consultant.  We spent the morning learning about the difference between parent involvement and family engagement, and discussed strategies to support positive family engagement in our program.

In the afternoon, we explored ways to support STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) into the classroom. Through our own engagement with materials, we learned how we can provide similar experiences for the children in our classrooms. In addition, we connected the experience to the Connecticut Early Learning & Development Standards, discovering the multiple domains that can be supported in a single experience.

As professionals, we are required to participate in continuing education, both by licensing regulations and to meet the high quality standards of NAEYC accreditation.  We continue to participate in professional learning opportunities offered throughout the region as well as our in-service PD days.
